Briar: talk without internetBriar: बिना इंटरनेट बात करें
Phones pass messages to each other over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. When any phone gets internet, messages go out to people far away by themselves. Do steps 1–6 tonight, while the internet still works.फ़ोन आपस में Bluetooth और Wi-Fi से मैसेज भेजते हैं। जैसे ही किसी फ़ोन पर इंटरनेट आता है, मैसेज अपने-आप दूर के लोगों तक पहुँच जाते हैं। स्टेप 1–6 आज रात ही कर लें, जब तक इंटरनेट चल रहा है।
Briar works only on Android. There is no iPhone version. If you have an iPhone:Briar सिर्फ़ Android पर चलता है। iPhone के लिए कोई Briar नहीं है। अगर आपके पास iPhone है:
- Carry any old Android phone if you have one. Set Briar up on it tonight. It needs no SIM.अगर कोई पुराना Android फ़ोन है तो उसे साथ रखें और आज रात उस पर Briar सेट कर लें। SIM की ज़रूरत नहीं है।
- Otherwise, stay close to a friend with Briar and read updates on their phone.नहीं तो किसी Briar वाले दोस्त के साथ रहें और उनके फ़ोन पर अपडेट देखें।
- Install Signal for when internet comes back. It does not work without internet.इंटरनेट वापस आने के लिए Signal रख लें। यह बिना इंटरनेट नहीं चलता।
- Search Briar in the Play Store, or use F-Droid, or briarproject.org.Play Store में Briar खोजें, या F-Droid या briarproject.org से लें।
- If it's blocked or you have no internet, get it from someone nearby who already has it. See step 04.अगर ब्लॉक है या इंटरनेट नहीं है, तो पास के किसी व्यक्ति से लें जिसके पास पहले से है। स्टेप 04 देखें।
- Pick a nickname. Not your real name.एक निकनेम चुनें। असली नाम नहीं।
- Pick a password you will remember. There is no "forgot password". If you lose it, the account is gone.ऐसा पासवर्ड रखें जो याद रहे। पासवर्ड भूलने पर वापस नहीं मिलता, अकाउंट खत्म हो जाता है।
- When Briar asks to stay connected in the background, tap Allow Connections, then Allow. Otherwise the phone stops passing messages when the screen is off.जब Briar बैकग्राउंड में कनेक्टेड रहने की अनुमति माँगे, तो Allow Connections और फिर Allow दबाएँ। वरना स्क्रीन बंद होने पर फ़ोन मैसेज आगे नहीं भेजेगा।
Open the menu ☰ → Settings → Connections. Turn on all three: Connect to contacts via the Internet, Connect to contacts on the same Wi-Fi network and Connect to contacts via Bluetooth. Bluetooth is off in Briar until you turn it on. Keep Bluetooth on in your phone too.मेनू ☰ → Settings → Connections खोलें। Connect to contacts via the Internet, Connect to contacts on the same Wi-Fi network और Connect to contacts via Bluetooth तीनों चालू करें। Briar में Bluetooth तब तक बंद रहता है जब तक आप उसे चालू न करें। फ़ोन का Bluetooth भी चालू रखें।
If you have Briar:जिसके पास Briar है:
- Open the menu ☰ → Settings → Share this app offline, then tap Start hotspot. If asked, allow location. Briar needs it to start the hotspot.मेनू ☰ → Settings → Share this app offline खोलें, फिर Start hotspot दबाएँ। पूछे तो लोकेशन की अनुमति दें। हॉटस्पॉट शुरू करने के लिए Briar को इसकी ज़रूरत है।
- Your phone makes a Wi-Fi hotspot and shows its network name and password. They stay the same every time. A QR code is on the next tab.आपका फ़ोन एक Wi-Fi हॉटस्पॉट बनाएगा और उसका नेटवर्क नाम और पासवर्ड दिखाएगा। ये हर बार एक ही रहते हैं। अगले टैब पर QR कोड है।
- Once the other phone has joined the Wi-Fi, tap Next. Briar shows a web address and a second QR code.जब दूसरा फ़ोन Wi-Fi से जुड़ जाए, तो Next दबाएँ। Briar एक वेब पता और दूसरा QR कोड दिखाएगा।
The person receiving it:जिसे ऐप लेना है:
- Open Wi-Fi settings, pick the network name shown on the other phone and type the password. If the phone says the Wi-Fi has no internet, stay connected anyway. Scanning the QR code also works on some phones, but not all.Wi-Fi सेटिंग खोलें, दूसरे फ़ोन पर दिख रहा नेटवर्क नाम चुनें और पासवर्ड डालें। अगर फ़ोन कहे कि इस Wi-Fi पर इंटरनेट नहीं है, तब भी जुड़े रहें। कुछ फ़ोन पर QR कोड स्कैन करके भी जुड़ सकते हैं, पर हर फ़ोन पर नहीं।
- Type the web address into Chrome or any browser exactly as shown, including http:// and the number after the colon. Or scan the second QR code.Chrome या किसी भी ब्राउज़र में वेब पता ठीक वैसा ही टाइप करें जैसा दिखा है, http:// और कोलन के बाद वाले नंबर समेत। या दूसरा QR कोड स्कैन करें।
- Download the file and tap it. If asked, allow Install unknown apps for the browser.फ़ाइल डाउनलोड करके उस पर टैप करें। पूछे तो उस ब्राउज़र के लिए Install unknown apps की अनुमति दें।
If the address won't load: on the receiving phone, disconnect any VPN app. Then open Settings → Network & internet → VPN, tap the gear next to each VPN, and turn off Always-on VPN and Block connections without VPN. Otherwise the VPN blocks the address even when it looks switched off. Then try again, or try another browser. If it still fails, the person sharing taps the ? help button on the sharing screen → Save app, and sends the file by Quick Share or Bluetooth. For Bluetooth, rename the file to end in .zip first.अगर पता न खुले: ऐप लेने वाले फ़ोन पर हर VPN ऐप डिस्कनेक्ट करें। फिर Settings → Network & internet → VPN खोलें, हर VPN के आगे गियर दबाएँ, और Always-on VPN और Block connections without VPN बंद करें। वरना VPN बंद दिखने पर भी पता नहीं खुलने देता। फिर दोबारा कोशिश करें, या कोई दूसरा ब्राउज़र आज़माएँ। फिर भी न खुले, तो शेयर करने वाला शेयरिंग स्क्रीन पर ? हेल्प बटन → Save app दबाए, और फ़ाइल Quick Share या Bluetooth से भेजे। Bluetooth के लिए पहले फ़ाइल का नाम बदलकर आख़िर में .zip लगाएँ।
Each new person can then share it onward. One copy can reach a whole crowd.फिर हर नया व्यक्ति आगे शेयर कर सकता है। एक कॉपी से पूरी भीड़ तक ऐप पहुँच सकता है।
Briar only talks to people you have added. Tap + on the Contacts screen.Briar सिर्फ़ उन्हीं से बात करता है जिन्हें आपने जोड़ा है। Contacts स्क्रीन पर + दबाएँ।
- Standing together: Add contact nearby. Both phones scan each other's QR code.साथ खड़े हों तो: Add contact nearby। दोनों फ़ोन एक-दूसरे का QR कोड स्कैन करें।
- Far away (family, friends outside the city): Add contact at a distance. Send your link to them on WhatsApp or SMS, paste their link, give them a nickname. Do this tonight. It needs internet once.दूर हों (परिवार, शहर के बाहर के दोस्त): Add contact at a distance। अपना लिंक WhatsApp या SMS से भेजें, उनका लिंक पेस्ट करें, निकनेम दें। यह आज रात ही करें। इसके लिए एक बार इंटरनेट चाहिए।
- One organiser opens ☰ → Forums → + and creates a forum.एक आयोजक ☰ → Forums → + से फ़ोरम बनाए।
- Inside the forum, open ⋮ → Share Forum, pick contacts and tap Share Forum. They accept the invite.फ़ोरम के अंदर ⋮ → Share Forum खोलें, कॉन्टैक्ट चुनें और Share Forum दबाएँ। वे इनवाइट स्वीकार करें।

- The far-away person must already be a Briar contact of someone in the crowd (step 05) and be in the forum (step 06).दूर वाला व्यक्ति पहले से भीड़ में किसी का Briar कॉन्टैक्ट हो (स्टेप 05) और फ़ोरम में हो (स्टेप 06)।
- Their phone must be online at that moment. If they have a spare Android phone, they can set it up as a Briar Mailbox at home. It holds messages for them even when their own phone is off.उस समय उनका फ़ोन ऑनलाइन होना चाहिए। अगर उनके पास कोई पुराना Android फ़ोन है, तो वे उसे घर पर Briar Mailbox बना सकते हैं। उनका फ़ोन बंद हो तब भी मैसेज उसमें जमा रहते हैं।
- Briar cannot post publicly to X or Instagram. Pick one or two people outside to copy important updates from the forum to social media.Briar X या Instagram पर पोस्ट नहीं कर सकता। बाहर के एक-दो लोग तय करें जो फ़ोरम के ज़रूरी अपडेट सोशल मीडिया पर डालें।
Two or three phones: turn on Airplane mode, then turn Bluetooth back on. Send a forum message. It should show up on the other phones within a few minutes. Briar checks for nearby phones every 1 to 10 minutes. If nothing arrives after 10 minutes, check step 03 and battery settings.दो-तीन फ़ोन लें: Airplane mode चालू करें, फिर Bluetooth वापस चालू करें। फ़ोरम में मैसेज भेजें। कुछ मिनटों में दूसरे फ़ोन पर आ जाना चाहिए। Briar हर 1 से 10 मिनट में पास के फ़ोन ढूँढता है। 10 मिनट बाद भी न आए तो स्टेप 03 और बैटरी सेटिंग देखें।
- Set a phone screen lock. Turn off fingerprint and face unlock before tomorrow.फ़ोन पर स्क्रीन लॉक लगाएँ। कल के लिए फ़िंगरप्रिंट और फ़ेस अनलॉक बंद करें।
- Open ☰ → Sign Out when you're not using Briar. Nobody can read it without your password.Briar इस्तेमाल न कर रहे हों तो ☰ → Sign Out करें। पासवर्ड के बिना कोई इसे नहीं पढ़ सकता।
- To wipe your account and start fresh: ☰ → Sign Out. On the sign-in screen, tap Forgot your password?. Briar warns that this deletes your account, contacts and messages. Tap Delete, then create a new account.अकाउंट मिटाकर नया शुरू करने के लिए: ☰ → Sign Out करें। साइन-इन स्क्रीन पर Forgot your password? दबाएँ। Briar चेतावनी देगा कि इससे आपका अकाउंट, कॉन्टैक्ट और मैसेज मिट जाएँगे। Delete दबाएँ, फिर नया अकाउंट बनाएँ।
- In one-to-one chats, open ⋮ → Disappearing messages and turn it on.एक-से-एक चैट में ⋮ → Disappearing messages खोलकर गायब होने वाले मैसेज चालू करें।
- Don't write names, phone numbers or plans you wouldn't want read aloud. Anyone in a forum can share it onward.नाम, फ़ोन नंबर या ऐसी योजनाएँ न लिखें जिन्हें आप पढ़े जाने नहीं देना चाहते। फ़ोरम का कोई भी सदस्य उसे आगे शेयर कर सकता है।
- Briar's distribution has been ordered blocked in India.भारत में Briar के डिस्ट्रिब्यूशन को ब्लॉक करने का आदेश है।
